Sanitary suggestions

Food

- Always take a look around the food place to check the cleanliness before getting yourself seated. For sidewalk kiosks, see if the ingredient storage and the dish washing area look hygienic enough. Also check their plates and utensils whether they are well cleaned.

Ice

Hua Hin ice- It is still debatable as to whether ice, cubed or grated, is clean enough to be consumed. There is history of people sickened by ice consumption before. However, many still enjoy the chilly crunch from their soft drink glasses and remain healthy by far.

Water

Hua Hin water- Never drink water directly from the faucet. Unlike in developed countries, faucet water in Thailand is not safe enough to be consumed without being treated with heat or other purifying systems. Play the safest by opting for properly bottled water.

Shower

Hua Hin shower- Take a shower daily, preferably twice a day, in the morning and at the end of the day. Though this suggestion is pretty much of the common sense, it could be quite easy to trip while you are in the carefree, holiday-ish euphoria. Many vacationers tend to slack in basic aspects while letting themselves go, having a good time. Don’t let it take over and pass out on your bed without taking shower. Germs thrive in the typical humidity of a tropical country. Taking a shower does not only help prevent tropical diseases. It also repels the heat your body has absorbed from the climate during the day. In return, the temperature of your body is neutralized, reducing chance of getting a fever.

Toilet

- For some reason, toilets in most public places do not have toilet paper or soap (Let alone the towel, you know). Always carry a pack of facial tissues and a small bottle of hand soap on you. Non-wash hand-cleansing gel which can be used on the move is an extra hygienic item worth traveling with, too.

General advices

- Carry germicide (eg. Betadine) and bandages. Your attempt to sue someone for leaving whatever harmful objects outside their houses is unlikely to be successful here.

- Don’t swim or walk bare-footed in the part of sea that stretches from the Klai Gangwon Palace to fishing community Samoreang. It is the area where initially treated sewage is released.
