Mobile phones
The mobile phone industry in Thailand is highly competitively both in the device and network spheres. New mobile phone models and cost-efficient call promotions are launched constantly to help the operators grab the little room left by the narrowing market margin. Take your time hunting down the choice that best suit your needs.

You can get a mobile phone in Hua Hin from these 3 main sites—Hua Hin Telecom mobile phone service center, shops lining up on the side of the Hua Hin Railway Station’s outer rim, and the mobile phone mart on the third floor of shopping complex Hua Hin Market Village.

There are 3 major players operating the mobile phone networks in Thailand—AIS, DTAC and TrueMove. AIS is known to provide the strongest cellular signals that are effective even in rural areas. And just logically, AIS’s services cost relatively higher than those by DTAC and TrueMove.

AIS, DTAC and TrueMove offer both pre-paid and post-paid services. Requiring no subscription, the pre-paid service comes in the form of packages sold in retail outlets e.g. 7-Eleven, Family Mart, etc. Meanwhile, users of the post-paid service have to subscribe and register to their network providers of choice. The bills can be paid through multiple channels such as at the network providers’ service centers, at Hua Hin Telecom, via ATM, etc.

Making a call from a mobile phone device to another or to a landline costs 0.25-5 baht, depending on the package you choose.

Overseas calls

Hua Hin international phoneInternational calls are mainly serviced by CAT Telecom and the Telephone Organization of Thailand (TOT). In making an overseas call, you have options of dialing 001, 009, 008 or 007 before the number you are calling.

For example, 001-(country code)-region code-telephone number.

001, by CAT Telecom, provides the channel of the highest quality and costs. CAT has also set up a budget alternative channel, 009, of which line quality and the calling rates stand in the same range as TOT’s 007 and 008.
