Hua Hin hosts Upper South’s grandest-ever offroad race.
The Hua Hin Adventure Offroad Khirikhan Club holds the Offroad Trophy 2007 July 28th-30th. Televised countrywide and joined by more than one-hundred racers from across Thailand, the event makes the largest-scale offroad race ever held in Thailand’s upper southern region.
Held on the Rain Retreat long weekend beside the local bazaar “Sanam Talad Nud See Sib Pad Rai”, the Offroad Trophy 2007 is expected to make a major family outing and draw a number of offroad-loving spectators from nearby provinces.
Racers joining the Offroad Trophy 2007 vie for the Princess’s Cup, which is to be bestowed by HRH Princess Soamsavali Phravararajatinuddamatu.
The event is held in raising fund for the construction of buildings on the new campus of Klai Kangwon Palace’s Vocational College. The institute is relocating from its original location, the perimeter of royal residence Klai Kangwol Palace in Hua Hin, to immediate district Cha-am. With its larger area, the land recently offered to HMK Bhumibol in Cha-am allows the royally fostered college a higher capacity and future enlargement.
The proceedings are contributed to by the Hua Hin Adventure Offroad Khirikhan Club’s internal donation and the public donation. The projected figures stand at a couple of hundred thousands baht.
The Offroad Trophy 2007 sees participation of more than one-hundred racers across the country. Most competitors belong to offroad clubs in their regions.
The three-day outing comprises four openings for four different vehicle types—commercial pickup trucks, hard-beamed pickup trucks, offroad cars with modified suspension (Open), and freely modified offroad cars (Super Open).
The league opens for application on July 28th. Competitors are expected to subject their vehicles to the run-through performed by the Royal Vehicle Association of Thailand. Spectators are warmed up by the vibe and sights of tough-looking cars getting it on during the run-through sessions. In the evening, the first orientation takes place to inform competitors on the rules.
The racing program starts at 8am on July 29th and wraps up at 4pm on July 30th. The opening ceremony, which is presided over by Hua Hin Mayor Sirapun Kamolpramote, is televised countrywide on the public broadcasting TITV and followed by the live diffusion of the championships 2pm-4pm on the last day of the event.
“This actually is the third year Hua Hin hosts the offroad race, but this year’s outing is the largest offroad race ever held in the Upper South so far. We are so honored to have Princess Soamsavali to grant the Cup. We see a large number of competitors and sponsors. Also, the event is televised countrywide on a widely watched television channel.” says Vut Roypa, the chairman of both the Hua Hin Adventure Offroad Khirikhan Club and the Upper South office of the Offroad Federation of Thailand.
Aside from the races, attendants enjoy the commercial display of privately owned classic cars as well as the latest models of pickup trucks by leading automakers. Authorized dealers offer special promotions to attendees who make reservations at the event.
