Electricity

Hua Hin electricityThe electricity is thoroughly distributed throughout Hua Hin by the Hua Hin Municipality. The power transmission is highly consistent though power surge occurs from time to time due to Hua Hin’s fast expansion.

If you plan on bringing any electric devices or appliances, make sure they are compatible with Thailand’s 220-volt electricity. You may get a plug-adapter kit, which is sold in stores around the city.

The average cost of electricity is 3.4 baht/ unit. A household with 3-4 members may consume electricity valued up to 1,000 baht (USD30)/ month. A unit of electricity consumed, however, is usually charged 5-6 baht in rented homes.

Electricity bills may be paid at any Provincial Electricity Authority office in Samutsongkram, Ratchaburi, Petchburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Choompawn and Ranong. Retail chain 7-Eleven and banks also provide additional payment channels with a fee of 10 and 5 baht, respectively. Overdue orders are to be paid solely at the Provincial Electricity Authority’s office in Hua Hin, though.

How to keep pests away

Your living in Hua Hin, as well as in anywhere else in Thailand, could be disturbed by such pests as cockroaches, rats, geckos, and flies. They are feared or hated, or even both, even by the locals. By courtesy of Pol.Capt.Parinya Charoenbundit of the Architecture Department of the Royal Thai Police’s Quarter Master Division, below is the fundamental guide to keep your home free from those uninvited guests.
  1. Keep your home tidy and spacious
The idea is make the best use of shelves and cabinets. Go for furniture of which bottoms meet the floor. The more mess and narrow gaps you reduce, the less room for pests to reside or hide in.
  2. Add shields to your interior
Bar rats, roaches and geckos from prowling inside and through the structure of your house by having gaps around shafts closed with mortar or wire net.
  3. Don’t have food leavings laying around
Either worthless or still edible, leftovers left in unlocked space in your home equal invitations unintentionally dropped to the pests. Always store your remaining food in a tightly closed cabinet or a fridge to prevent smells from leaking and pests from feeding on it. Also, always clean your stools and kitchen sink’s drainage at the end of day.
  4. Manage trashes smartly
Pick bins with proper lids and daily take trashes out. Trap food leavings by fixing a filter on your sink hole, put them into a plastic bag, and get rid of them separately. Also, have the draining pipe fixed with a grease trap to double the treatment of water used in the kitchen. Cleaner interior pipes decrease the area pests roam in search of food. Condominiums and houses operated by high profile developers mostly are equipped with hygienic draining system.
  5. Guard your perimeter
Keep your frontiers strong by maintaining the cleanliness of the perimeter and having exterior pipes cleaned out. This is a hard work, so we suggest you resort to professionals in getting the tasks done.

Ideal ideas…

  • If you own a house, it’s best to have a standalone kitchen built separately under its own roof.
  • Go for houses and condominiums managed by professional building managers or developers who have ditches regularly treated with insecticides.

Water supplies in Hua Hin

Hua Hin waterWater supplies in Hua Hin are provided by the Waterworks Division of the Hua Hin Municipality. The raw water pumped from Pranburi Reservoir in immediate district Pranburi is carried by 3 pipelines to 5 water purification plants in Hua Hin—Damnoenkasem, Rai Noon, Hua Na, Khao Laeng, and Kao Tao. The treated water’s clarity value stands at 2-3 MPU, which is safe for hygienic consumption. However, at this level of purity, it is not suggested for drinking without a further treatment. The quality of the treated water is maintained through daily checks.

A Quick Look at the Water treatment Process

Pumping, containment and sedimentation The raw water is pumped into holding tanks to let sediments sink to the bottom

Filtering Small debris is extracted through slow sand filters

Storage The filtered water is sat in underground holding tanks, allowing natural biological purification to take place

Disinfection Chlorine is added to the water to remove parasites, bacteria, algae, viruses and fungi

From storage to consumption

Geographically made up with plains and highlands, two different means are generally employed in supplying water to the different terrains in Hua Hin today.

  1. Direct distribution The method is applied in buildings on plains. Simply undo the faucet and the treated water is directly pumped from the facility, ready to use. Yet, the quality of the water can be made better with an aid of an underground holding tank, which allows extra sedimentation. Installation of an electric pump is consequently needed in drawing the double-contained water up from the underground tank.
  2. Pre-use storage Buildings in highland experience issues of low pumping pressure, which could interfere with the water flow rate. Therefore, the water needs to be pumped from the purification facilities and stored in underground holding tanks prior to the consumption. Drawing the water up from underground tanks is assisted with indoor electric pumps as aforementioned.

Turning It into Drinking Water

According to the Chief of Generating Department of the Hua Hin Municipality’s Waterworks Division, the water conveyed from the purification plants should be double-cleansed with household water treatment system and boiled before drinking. Household water treatment equipments and electric water boilers are primary items in appliance shops.
Warm water

Separate hot-cold valves generally found in Western buildings are not commonly used in Thailand, except in hotels. Warm water used in households here is mainly made with electric warm shower.

Dealing with Used Water and Your Toilet

Sewers handle waste material from all parts of a building, except toilets.

It is highly recommended to have sink holes fixed with food leavings filters. Doing so does not only benefit the communal water systems as a whole, but also greatly prevents cockroaches and rats from claiming your kitchen as their feeding territory.

Suction for toilets has to be done averagely once a year. This is taken care of by the Hua Hin Municipality. You may contact them directly and the Municipality complex, or call the tourist police at 1155.
