Setting your foot into a hairdresser’s you are not familiar with could be an experience so fazing as taking the first bite of the notorious durian in your life. And, when the scenario takes place in another country far from your home, some sizeable notches of fearsomeness are very likely to be added.

Don’t get too panicked, though. Aside from summoning up the courage, equip yourself with some knowledge offered here. In the end, no matter how the outcome turns out to be like, you could at least tell yourself that you have done your best to prevent the trend tragedy from befalling your hair.

The food and salon businesses in Thailand can be compared to each other in terms of the easiness in opening a venture. So simple as a family turning the ground floor of their home into a shophouse restaurant, a middle-aged guy who owns a pair of scissors valued the equivalent of USD2 could proclaim himself a hairdresser, with all ease.

Unlike in Europe or the US, to be a hairdresser in Thailand, no official training is required from the person. Those who aspire to make serious practitioners may receive professional training from prestigious hairdressing institutes, but the case is uncommon in Thailand.

It is not so hopeless as to how to tell the good, the bad, and the ugly, though. Appearances of the site do count, hugely. Skip shabby salons and always opt for reliable-looking larger salons, preferably air-conditioned. Don’t get us wrong. We dislike sounding materialistic, but sadly that’s the way it is about the hairdressing business in Thailand. Keep in mind you are not on a journey to receive yogic training in India, where simplicity equals authenticity.

The “good” salons scout hairdressers who receive professional training from solid institutes, or as well from the seniors working in the same place. Lineups of hair treatment and styling products mostly are dominated by world-class brands such as L’Oreal, Kanebo, among others. You might even hit the salon, totally blank as to which style you should get. Once you get to the parlor, a stack of updated hairstyle guidebooks will be piled up before you.

Perhaps the best things about hairdresser’s in Thailand are that you usually do not need to reserve your queue in prior.
